{"id":90891,"date":"2021-05-07T21:46:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-08T01:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/keriritenour.com\/grace\/a-godly-mother\/"},"modified":"2023-10-07T14:20:46","modified_gmt":"2023-10-07T18:20:46","slug":"a-godly-mother","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/keriritenour.com\/grace\/a-godly-mother\/","title":{"rendered":"A Godly Mother"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Proverbs\n31:28<\/strong><strong> \u2013 \u201cHer children arise up, and call her\nblessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">With every title we inherit comes a Biblical job\ndescription complete with God\u2019s blessing. &nbsp;A godly mother is a woman who represents the\nheart of Christ to her children. She is continually aware of her influence over\ntheir lives and futures and makes sacrifices whenever necessary for their\nwelfare. Godly mothers are first godly women. They are not one way at home and\nanother way in public. Even when her children do not have a godly father, a\nmother has a great impact on her children\u2019s physical, emotional, psychological\nand spiritual future. The following are six characteristics of a Godly mother:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">1. She knows God. A godly mother wants her children to be godly, and\nshe leads the way. A mother cannot pass on to her children values and qualities\nthat she does not possess. So the first step in becoming a godly mother is\nsurrendering to the lordship of Jesus. Only then is her soul restored (<strong>Psalm 23:3<\/strong>),\nher life recreated (<strong>2 Corinthians 5:17<\/strong>), and her mind renewed (<strong>Romans 12:2<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">2. She understands her role in marriage and the family. As part of\nsin\u2019s curse, women struggle with wanting to control their husbands (<strong>Genesis 3:16<\/strong>).\nBut God decreed that husbands and fathers should carry the weight of\nresponsibility for their families (<strong>1 Corinthians 11:3<\/strong>). A godly wife will gracefully\nbow to that leadership and model for her children godly submission to authority.\nEven when husbands and fathers are not worthy of such respect, godly mothers do\nnot bad-mouth them to the children. Divorced or single mothers can be godly\nmothers as they teach their children of God\u2019s plan for marriage and demonstrate\npurity and wisdom in their own dating relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">3. She does not neglect her own health and well-being (<strong>3 John 1:2<\/strong>).\nOften, we equate personal martyrdom with humility and service, but it need not\nbe that way. Godly mothers model for their children healthy self-respect and\nboundaries. A godly mother knows that wearing herself out acting as a slave to\nher children is not good for anyone. She will give selflessly to her children,\nbut she will also carve out time to rejuvenate herself because she knows that,\nif she is not healthy, her children will also suffer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">4. She seizes teachable moments to instill biblical truths. A godly\nmother is not so focused on meeting physical needs that she neglects her real\ncalling, which is to raise future disciples of Christ (<strong>Eph. 6:4; Pr. 22:6<\/strong>).\nBecause she walks in close harmony with God, she directs her children\u2019s\nattention to His work in their lives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">a. Moms set spiritual guidelines by teaching the Bible (<strong>2 Tim. 1:13<\/strong>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">b. Moms set spiritual guidelines concerning companions\n(<strong>Amos 3:3<\/strong>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">c. Moms set spiritual guidelines concerning morality (<strong>1 Cor. 6:9\u201310<\/strong>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">d. Moms set spiritual guidelines concerning idolatry (<strong>2 Cor. 6:17<\/strong>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Setting spiritual boundaries entails discernment (<strong>Psalm 101:3<\/strong>); foresight (<strong>Proverbs 4:14\u201315<\/strong>);\nand commitment (<strong>Joshua\n24:15<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">5. She models service to God and others. Children need reminders that\nthey were created for God, and serving Him is their highest calling (<strong>Colossians 1:16<\/strong>).\nA godly mother will demonstrate this in her own life as she involves her\nchildren in serving others. <strong>Acts 9:36\u201341<\/strong> gives us a glimpse into the life of\nTabitha, who was known for her good deeds. When she died, many townspeople\nbrought out the garments she had made for them as evidence of her kindness. A\ngodly mother leaves evidence of her kindness, and her children are proud of her\nreputation (see <strong>Matthew\n5:16<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">6. She has a healthy self-image. Many women in our culture struggle\nwith low self-worth due to childhood wounds or comparison with others. A godly\nmother has learned to see herself as God sees her. Because of this, she can\ndemonstrate to her children the way a godly woman should present herself. Godly\nmothers see themselves as active participants in God\u2019s work; they don\u2019t try to\ngain attention or a sense of worth through dress or behavior or relational\nstatus. <strong>First\nPeter 3:3\u20134<\/strong> says, \u201c<strong>Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as\nelaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather,\nit should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet\nspirit, which is of great worth in God\u2019s sight.<\/strong>\u201d A godly mother acts\nand dresses modestly. She models proper, God-honoring behavior to her children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The\n<strong>Proverbs 31<\/strong>\nwoman is a picture of a godly mother. Although she puts her children and\nhusband first, they are not her entire world. She develops her gifts and uses\nthem to benefit her family and her community. She is a credit to her husband\nand a role model for her children. She lives with integrity at home and in\npublic, and she presents herself honorably. <strong>Verse 28<\/strong> gives us the result of her\nyears of faithful mothering. After she has poured her life into them, \u201c<strong>her children rise\nup and call her blessed.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">To mothers: are you living up to God\u2019s job\ndescription, enjoying the blessing of your children and praise of your husband?&nbsp; To husbands and children: giving blessing and\npraise to your wife and mother?&nbsp; A\nreminder to children: you should, as God says it enriches and prolongs your\nlife.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Proverbs 31:28 \u2013 \u201cHer children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.\u201d With every title we inherit comes a Biblical job description complete with God\u2019s blessing. &nbsp;A godly mother is a woman who represents the heart of Christ to her children.
