\u201cGod is light<\/strong>,\u201d says 1 John 1:5<\/strong>. Light is a common\nmetaphor in the Bible. Proverbs 4:18<\/strong> symbolizes righteousness as the \u201cmorning sun<\/strong>.\u201d\nPhilippians 2:15<\/strong>\nlikens God\u2019s children who are \u201cblameless and pure<\/strong>\u201d to shining stars in the sky.\nJesus used light as a picture of good works: \u201cLet your light shine before others, that they\nmay see your good deeds<\/strong>\u201d (Matthew 5:16<\/strong>). Psalm 76:4<\/strong> says of God, \u201cYou are radiant\nwith light<\/strong>.\u201d  Jesus said, \u201cI am the light of\nthe world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the\nlight of life<\/strong>\u201d (John 8:12<\/strong>). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To \u201cwalk\u201d is to make progress and it is God\u2019s plan that\nbelievers shine forth His light, becoming more like Christ every day: \u201cYou are all children\nof the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the\ndarkness<\/strong>\u201d (1 Thess. 5:5<\/strong>). God is the Creator of physical &\nspiritual light by which we can see the truth. To walk in the light means to\nknow God, understand the truth, and live in righteousness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

God Created Light<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And God said, ‘Let there be light!’ and there was light (Genesis 1:3<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of\nthe heavens to divide the day from the night and let them be for signs and for\nseasons and for days and years” (Genesis 1:14<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then God made two great lights, the greater light to govern\nthe day, and the lesser light to govern the night. God made the stars also (Genesis 1:16<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Light is sweet, and it is pleases our eyes to see the sun (Ecclesiastes 11:7<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Light of Revelation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of\ndarkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of\nthe glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:6<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Children of Light<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For you are all children of light, children of the day. We\nare not of the night or of the darkness (1 Thessalonians 5:5<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,\na people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the virtues of him who\ncalled you out of darkness into his marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does\nnot come to the light, lest his works should be exposed (John 3:20<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walking in the Light<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.\nWalk as children of light (Ephesians 5:8<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to\nyou, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we walk in the light,\nas he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of\nJesus his Son cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:5-7<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I now write you a new commandment. It is true in Christ, and\nalso in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is\nalready shining. Those who claim to be in the light, yet hate their brother,\nthese are in darkness even now. Those who love their brother are living in the\nlight. There is no cause in them for stumbling (1 John 2:8-10<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Awake you sleeper, arise from the dead, and Christ will give\nyou light. See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools walk, but as do\nthe wise (Ephesians\n5:14<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Jesus Says About Light<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am\nthe light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but\nwill have the light of life” (John 8:12<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may\nbecome sons of light… (John 12:36<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy,\nyour whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of\ndarkness. Therefore be sure that the light [you think you have] in you is not\ndarkness (Luke\n11:34-35<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus is the Light<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In him was life, and the life was the light of all mankind.\nThe light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it (John 1:4-5<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light. On\nthose living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned (Isaiah 9:2<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?\nThe LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these\nthings for the congregations. I am the root and the descendant of David, the\nbright morning star (Revelation 22:16<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Light Must Shine in Us<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus said, “\u201cYou are the light of the world. A city\nset on a hill cannot be hidden” (Matthew 5:14<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let your light shine before others; let them see your good\nworks and give glory to your Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5:16<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the\nwicked will be snuffed out (Proverbs 13:9<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Future City of Light<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city has no need for sun or moon to shine on it, because\nthe glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its lamp. By its light\nwill the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into\nit. Its gates will never be shut by day and there will be no night there (Revelation 21:23-2<\/strong>5).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sun shall be no more your light by day, nor for\nbrightness shall the moon give you light; but the LORD will be your everlasting\nlight, and your God will be your glory. Your sun shall no more go down, nor\nyour moon withdraw itself; for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and\nyour days of mourning shall be ended (Isaiah 60:19-20<\/strong>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
