The\nChristian life is not always an easy road. Sometimes we get off track. The\nBible says to encourage your brothers and sisters in Christ daily so that no\none turns away from the living God (Hebrews 3:13).  Here are fifteen ways to avoid turning from\nGod (backsliding):<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Examine your faith-life regularly: \u201cExamine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test\nyourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is\nin you?\u2014unless indeed you fail to meet the test!\u201d (2 Corinthians 13:5)<\/li>
  2. If you find yourself drifting away,\nturn back immediately: \u201cTake care, brothers, lest there\nbe in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the\nliving God. 13 But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called\n\u201ctoday,\u201d that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.\u201d\n(Hebrews 3:12-13)<\/li>
  3. Come to God daily for forgiveness and\ncleansing: \u201cIf we confess our sins, he is faithful and\njust to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.\u201d  (1 John 1:9)<\/li>
  4. Continue daily seeking the Lord with\nyour whole heart: \u201cAnd you, Solomon my son, know the\nGod of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind,\nfor the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you\nseek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off\nforever.\u201d (1 Chronicles 28:9)<\/li>
  5. Stay in the Word of God; keep\nstudying and learning daily: \u201cKeep hold of instruction;\ndo not let go; guard her, for she is your life.\u201d (Proverbs 4:13)<\/li>
  6. Stay in fellowship often with other\nbelievers as you can\u2019t make it alone as a Christian. We need the strength and\nprayers of other believers: \u201cnot neglecting to meet\ntogether, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the\nmore as you see the Day drawing near.\u201d (Hebrews\n10:25)<\/li>
  7. Stand firm in your faith and expect\ndifficult times in your Christian life: \u201cand you will\nbe hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be\nsaved.\u201d (Matthew 10:22) <\/li>
  8. Persevere: \u201cPractice\nthese things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress. 16\nKeep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so\ndoing you will save both yourself and your hearers.\u201d (1 Timothy 4:15-17)<\/li>
  9. Run the race to win: \u201cI have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I\nhave kept the faith. 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of\nrighteousness….\u201d (2 Timothy 4:7-8a)<\/li>
  10. Remember what God has done for you in\nthe past: \u201cRemember those earlier days after you had\nreceived the light when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of\nsuffering. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.\nYou need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will\nreceive what he has promised \u2026 we are not of those who shrink back and are\ndestroyed but of those who believe and are saved.\u201d (Hebrews 10:32, 35-39)<\/li>
  11. Develop a daily habit of spending\ntime with God. Habits are hard to break: \u201cBut for me it\nis good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of\nall your works.\u201d (Psalm 73:28)<\/li>
  12. Memorize favorite Bible verses to\nrecall in difficult times \u201cI have stored up your word\nin my heart, that I might not sin against you.\u201d (Psalm 119:11)<\/li>
  13. Listen to Christian music to keep\nyour mind and heart in tune with God: \u201cLet the word of\nChrist dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom,\nsinging psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts\nto God.\u201d (Colossians 3:16)<\/li>
  14. Develop a Christian friendship so\nthat you’ll have someone to call when you feel weak: \u201cA\nfriend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.\u201d (Proverbs 17:17)<\/li>
  15. Get involved in a meaningful missions\nproject with other Christians: \u201cHow then will they call\non him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of\nwhom they have never heard?  And how are\nthey to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless\nthey are sent? As it is written, \u2018How beautiful are the feet of those who\npreach the good news!\u2019\u201d (Romans 10:14-15)<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
