They are new every morning; great is\nyour faithfulness<\/strong>\u201d (<strong>Lamentations 3:22\u201323<\/strong>) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The Hebrew word translated \u201c<strong>faithfulness<\/strong>\u201d\nmeans \u201csteadfastness, firmness, fidelity\u201d as opposed to unsure, ever changing,\nand untrustworthy.&nbsp; <strong>Psalm 119:89\u201390<\/strong> says, \u201c<strong>Your word, Lord, is\neternal; it stands firm in the heavens. Your faithfulness continues through all\ngenerations.<\/strong>\u201d Here faithfulness is equated with God\u2019s Word:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><li>God speaks\nnever-ending truth. If God spoke something a thousand years ago, it still\nstands (<strong>Rev. 21:5<\/strong>; <strong>22:6<\/strong>) ;<\/li><li>He is faithful to\nHis Word, because His Word is an expression of His character (<strong>Numbers 23:19<\/strong>);<\/li><li>The promises He\nmade still hold true because He does not change (<strong>Malachi 3:6<\/strong>);<\/li><li>In the same way,\nGod remains faithful to His promises, even though we are often unfaithful to\nHim (<strong>2 Timothy\n2:13<\/strong>).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">When we study God\u2019s Word, a\npattern emerges:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><li>We learn that God\nnever changes (<strong>Numbers\n23:19<\/strong>);<\/li><li>We learn that God\nnever lies (<strong>1\nSamuel 15:29<\/strong>);<\/li><li>We learn that God\nhas never failed in the past (<strong>Isaiah 51:6<\/strong>)<\/li><li>We learn that God\nkeeps His word (<strong>Numbers\n11:23<\/strong>; <strong>Matthew 24:35<\/strong>)<\/li><li>We learn that God\nwill never cease being sovereign, holy, or good (<strong>1 Timothy 6:15<\/strong>; <strong>1 Peter 1:16<\/strong>).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">We learn through our own\nhistory that He has never failed us, either. One command God often gave the\nIsraelites was \u201c<strong>Remember<\/strong>\u201d\n(<strong>Deuteronomy 8:2<\/strong>;\n<strong>Isaiah 46:9<\/strong>):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><li>When they\nremembered all God had done for them, they could more easily trust Him for the\nfuture;<\/li><li>We need to\nintentionally remember all the ways God has provided for us and delivered us in\nthe past;<\/li><li>Keeping a prayer\njournal can help with this. When we recall the ways God has answered our\nprayers, it equips us to continue asking and expecting answers which\nstrengthens our faith;<\/li><li>When we come to\nHim in prayer, we know that He always hears us (<strong>1 John 5:14<\/strong>; <strong>Psalm 34:15<\/strong>);<\/li><li>He provides what\nwe need (<strong>Philippians\n4:19<\/strong>);<\/li><li>He will always\nmake everything work together for our good when we trust Him with it (<strong>Romans 8:28<\/strong>).\n<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">We learn to trust God\u2019s\nfuture faithfulness by remembering His past faithfulness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">We earn to trust Him by\nlearning to distinguish His voice from the others that compete for attention:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><li>Jesus said, \u201c<strong>My sheep hear my\nvoice; I know them and they follow me<\/strong>\u201d (<strong>John 10:27<\/strong>). We who belong to Jesus\nneed to cultivate the ability to hear Him; <\/li><li>God speaks\nprimarily through His Word, but He can also speak through other people, through\ncircumstances, and through the inner confirmation of the Holy Spirit (<strong>Romans 8:16<\/strong>);<\/li><li>As we carefully\nread and meditate upon Scripture, the Holy Spirit often quickens our hearts to\na verse or passage and helps us claim it and apply it to our current situation;<\/li><li>What the Spirit\nshows us in His Word is to be taken by faith as His message to us;<\/li><li>We build trust by\nclaiming His promises and applying them to our lives.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Above all things, God loves\nfor us to demonstrate faith (<strong>Hebrews 11:6<\/strong>):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><li>Faith is trusting\nin the character of God before we see how He is going to work things out;<\/li><li>He has given us\nHis Word, and His promises still stand;<\/li><li>As we see the\nways He brings His promises to fulfillment, our trust in His faithfulness\ngrows. Just as our trust in other people grows with daily interaction, our\ntrust in God grows the same way;<\/li><li>We trust Him when\nwe know Him, and to know Him is to trust Him;<\/li><li>When we know Him,\nwe can rest in His goodness, even when we don\u2019t understand the circumstances\nthat seem to contradict it;<\/li><li>We can trust that\nGod\u2019s plan for us will prevail (<strong>Proverbs 19:21<\/strong>);<\/li><li>As a child trusts\na loving father, we can trust our heavenly Father to always do what is right.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cBecause of the Lord\u2019s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
